Whenever you talk of automobile industry today, you just cannot leave Tesla Motors out of the conversation. From being on the verge of filing for bankruptcy to disrupting the automobile industry with its battery powered revolutionary cars, Tesla Motors and Elon Musk have done the unthinkable. They have made battery powered cars cool and desirable! After the success of Tesla Model S, today, Elon Musk took center stage and launched Tesla Model 3, the company’s ‘budget’ car for $35000. There are many who still believe that given the looks of the car, Elon Musk is playing an April Fool prank by saying that it is just for $35000. The progress that Tesla has made speaks volumes. With the Tesla Model 3 expected to have a range of 215 miles (346 km) on a single charge as the benchmark with chances of performing better than that shows how good the batteries have become and how well they have been optimized for the electric car Tesla produces. The announcement of Tesla Model 3 was the highlight of the day to many but to us, the bigger announcement came later when Elon Musk in a reply to India Today, said that the supercharger network will be coming to India soon!
Tesla and its supercharger network are coming to India!
Elon Musk did mention about increasing the supercharger network to double them in number to the currently present. This expansion will take place in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. Even though the reply from Elon Musk is pretty generic as no dates as to when the supercharger network will arrive in India and if India is in Tesla’s immediate plans at all, the simple tweet in itself has got us quite excited.
Given that Elon Musk does what he wants and when he wants, one can never be too sure what is the timeline of whatever he says. Tesla Model 3 has already received more than a 100,000 pre-booking and is expected to be delivered by the end of next year. Now that Tesla has been able to get so many pre-bookings just shows how far they have already come. It will be interesting to see what Elon Musk has in mind when it comes to India. The Indian automotive industry and the consumers are an entirely different breed and what strategy Elon Musk and Tesla apply remains to be seen. Even after this ‘mini’ announcement on Twitter, we do not expect a Tesla motors car running on Indian roads in the next 2 years at least. Having said that, Iron Man being Iron Man and Elon Musk being the real world Iron Man, we could be completely wrong.
