PayTM has been expanding its business at neck break speed. The company that began with offering the service of mobile recharge has now become a full-fledged e-commerce portal. From buying your mobile to paying your DTH service subscription fee, from buying essentials for your next trip to booking the hotel to where you are going, PayTM offers it all. The one thing that it didn’t was domestic flight booking service. Now, it is going to add that category too!
Domestic flight booking category has been added to the mobile app of PayTM with the coming soon message labeled on it.
One97 communications, the parent company of PayTM has certainly come a long way and is now going to venture into a domain that up to now no other e-commerce portal has tried to tap into. The sheer number of services that PayTM offers has already made it a huge player. It cannot be denied that much of its e-commerce portal runs because of the sheer amount of cashback the company offers. We won’t hold that against PayTM just yet given that is exactly how every other e-commerce player has been going about to get customers on board – cashback and discounts.
Given the way PayTM is expanding and venturing into a business that already has well-established players in Yatra, MakeMyTrip and the likes, it will be interesting to see how big a dent they make in the customer base of these service providers. PayTM is slowly becoming your one stop solution for everything that you might want to purchase online. The domestic flight booking scheme might attract more people on to PayTM. Given that PayTM wallet is pretty popular among the masses, the ability to pay through the same might be an added incentive when the service actually launches. It will also be interesting to see if the ceiling for the amount that can be held in the wallet is increased. Domestic flight too sometimes tend to cost more than Rs. 10,000 hence the wallet will be rendered useless in such cases.
As the story is still developing, nobody can really predict what exactly the domestic flight booking service will be like and what will be the processing charges associated with it. It sure is a bold move by the CEO of PayTM, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, and it will be really interesting to see how it pans out.
