There are a number of startups that are operating the e-learning space. While they provide the comfort of learning from your home, the one on one interaction is missing. Also, not everyone takes the same amount of time or a single explanation to understand things. The idea might work for competitive exams especially for people preparing for Post Graduation Programs. On the other hand, for school going kids, who need to understand and grasp the basics of all the topics being taught, online education doesn’t appear to be the best medium. For that reason, hunting for home tutors is another job that the parents need to cater to. FlipClass is a startup in this specific domain.
FlipClass is an online marketplace for parents to choose a home tutor for their child.
As per a report published on LiveMint, FlipClass has just raised $1 million from Blume Ventures and S. Chand publishers. This is FlipClass’ second round of investment after it raised $250,000 in 2014 through online funding platform LetsVenture. The amount was raised from group of investors led by Hareesh Ramanna, founder of Singapore based BlueCap Mobile Holdings.
Founded in 2013, based out of Bangalore and run by Gyankosh Solutions has a couple of competitors in the space in the form of Vedantu (backed by Tiger Global) and Vidyanext.
Speaking of the investment from S. Chand, Vineet Diwedi, the founder and CEO of FlipClass said:
“We are very excited to have S Chand invest in our platform. We will also look to integrate their content with our learning tools and provide a more enriching experience to students”
These online tutor booking platforms are certainly helpful for parents and the validation has been done by the success of FlipClass who claim to have an active database 4,000 students and 10,000 tutors, and has delivered over 200,000 hours of home and online tuitions.
